Having your baby at home with a registered midwife is just as safe
as a conventional hospital birth, a new study says. In fact,
planned home births of this kind may have a lower rate of
complications, according to the study published in the Sept. 15
issue of CMAJ. Even though the study was conducted in Canada, [...]

High blood pressure and home birth
Just a quick update, I have been seen again this morning to check
my blood pressure and blood tests. The midwife who saw me today was
lovely and explained everything, she does feel that the symptoms I
had were a one off and because they haven't happened again she
feels they can discharge me back to my community midwife. My blood
pressure today was 115/75 no protein in my urine and no changes in
my liver tests. She explained that the liver function test would be
slightly abnormal if I wasn't pregnant but they are within the
range of normal for pregnancy. I have contacted my community
midwife and she is coming to do the home visit on Friday morning.
We will discuss the practicalities of home birth vs. Hospital and I
will stress the fact that I am level headed enough, if I have any

travelling to give birth in a hotel with a midwife?
does anyone have any experience traveling to another town to give
birth in a hotel room with a midwife? this is our plan so far. our
midwife is in a town 1.5 hours away, and i absolutely do not want
to give birth in a hospital if at all possible. my midwife is
completely on board and we'll still be doing a hospital tour in the
town we will be giving birth in just in case we do need to
transfer. it's a small town so the hospital will be very close no
matter which hotel we choose. i'm hoping to just drive there as
soon as i start early labor and get comfortable in our room, so i'm
not concerned about getting there in time. i guess what i'm looking
for is other people's experiences and tips etc. thanks in advance!
Moira's Birth Story
I am posting for the first time here after lurking for a long time.
I am looking for some support and information to support my wish
for a natural home birth, I will start with a bit of back ground
info hopefully I wont ramble too much and manage to get all the
important info in.My birth plan has always been along the lines of
natural un-medicated home birth with the use of TENS in early
labor, birthing pool for labor/delivery, I have used hypnotherapy
cds throughout my pregnancy to aid in birthing. I had always said
though that if there were any complications then I would transfer
to hospital as I am only interested in the safe birth of my child.
Now I am being told that I have complications and cannot even try a
home birth.I am 35+4 Weeks pregnant with my first child, I am based
in th...
